NEWSLETTER NO. 102
from Barbara in Sierra Leone
September 2008

Hello! Hello! How are you?
Kushe! Kushe! Aw de bodi?
Buwa! Buwa! Kahunyena?

Before I do anything else, I would like to say Happy 89th(!) Birthday to my wonderful Dad!  I know you will join me in praying for his continual good health and happiness and more birthdays to come.  Well done Dad and lots and lots of love to you!

This Newsletter is a short one as the first two weeks were included in my last Newsletter (my being in the UK and coming back to Salone).

Schools did not re-open until the 22nd so it was straight down to work to catch up on lost term time.  It was great to see all the kids again.  We had three new admissions – 1 girl and 2 boys.  All of Class 6 were promoted and are now integrated into secondary schools – Nacel to Vine Memorial Girls School; Memunatu to Methodist Girls High School; Bankole to St. Edwards Boys School; Lamin to Collegiate Boys School; Salifu to Murray Town Municipal School.  We are very pleased they have done so well.

We had a visit from Standard Chartered Bank and Sight Savers International.  Standard Chartered had made a donation of money to Sight Savers to enable the secondary schools core text books to be translated into Braille so each secondary school pupil would have his/her own set of the required/relevant text books, which is a big project.  Once we have sorted and assigned each set, we shall invite Standard Chartered and Sight Savers and the Ministry of Education and media to witness the handing over of the books to the pupils.  This is such an enormous help to us and especially the pupils, we heartily extend our sincerest thanks to Standard Chartered and Sight Savers.

Well, as I said, this is a very short Newsletter and it only remains for me to close now as always by sending best wishes to those celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, and any other happy event.  I also send goodwill messages and solicitations/condolences to those who are not well or have a bereavement or have received any sad news.

From all the children and staff here at the School and myself, I send all our love and prayers to you and your families and friends.

May God bless you.

All my love.

Barbara.
