You may have noticed
that the second class Christmas stamps this year depict an angel and a
man who is asleep. It also quotes the passage in the Bible where this is
taken from - St. Matthew Chapter 1 and Verse 21. If you look at a Bible
you will see that this is the account of where an angel appears to
Joseph, who is engaged to Mary, to tell him that Mary is expecting a
child but it has been conceived by the Holy Spirit. The verse quoted on
the postage stamp says:
“She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,
because he will save his people from their sins.”
Christmas is a
very special time in the Church and we at Copthorne Chapel will be
celebrating the birth of the Lord Jesus with three special services:
On Sunday 11th
December at 4pm Simon Roberton will be leading our carol service in
Copthorne Village Hall, with the Copthorne Silver Band. This will be
followed by mince pies and tea. An offering will be taken for the
Heatherley Cheshire Home. This enables anyone in the village who does
not wish to attend a church service to sing the Christmas carols.
Our second special
service is at the Chapel, on Sunday 18th December at 6.30pm, and this
will be Carols by Candlelight.
Lastly is our
Christmas morning service on Sunday 25th December at 10.30am at the
Chapel, led by Barry Mortlock. You are all encouraged to bring along a
Christmas present that you have received - if you have opened them by
then! We would love to see you all at one or all of our services. |
